USB 2.0 driver for Win98
I have to get a load of files off an old Win98 system and would like to load them onto a USB 2.0 memory stick. The system cannot find a driver to handle the memory stick. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Re: USB 2.0 driver for Win98
Hi Jeff
Try to find the manufacturer's name on your device, and visit their website for a suitable driver. The stick should work, even if the USB ports on the Win98 box are only USB 1.1 (which is likely). You don't need a USB 2.0 driver, you just need a driver for your device. Or . . . alternatives would be to slave the drive in another PC, or to use an external hard drive enclosure, and copy the files that way. Best of luck . . . Gary

Re: USB 2.0 driver for Win98
Hi Gary,
Thanks for that. The device is made by Koenig, and I have searched using that name without luck. However I doubt that the manufacturer is relevant because I have used this stick to transfer files between a number of (more modern) computers without problems. I guess I am looking for a generic driver that will handle a flash drive under Win98. Cheers, Jeff |

Re: USB 2.0 driver for Win98
Hi again Jeff
I tried a search or two for exact-match Win98/98se USB drivers for your Koenig flash drive . . . but I couldn't find anything convincing, either. A British support site has rounded up what they feel might be workable generic Win98/98se drivers for USB flash-drives --- http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php --- I suppose you could try those. Most of the search results for 'Koenig' USB drives were sites located in either the UK or Australia, which could mean that the drives are re-branded. If the drivers from the British site above don't work, try locating a Samsung driver. A great many of the drives use Samsung's chips. Best of luck . . . Gary

Re: USB 2.0 driver for Win98
Hi Gary,
Thank you very much, that looks like a very helpful site. It will take me a while get and test the driver because I am doing this for a friend who lives some miles away. Incidentally, I do live in Australia so the re-branding seems possible. Thanks again, Jeff |
