problem with cable internet and reformating...

first off, i have a sony vaio with windows 98. just recently i think i got a virus from downloading... my cable internet doesnt work, when i run winipcfg, i found out that it was set to PPP Adapter. when i changed it, it automatically changes back..

my second problem is that i was trying to format my computer, but when i put my system recovery cd in and shutdown. upon startup, it is supposed to read the cd, but it doesnt. my cd and dvd drives can read other cds just fine, just the system recovery cd cant work.

can any here help me out...

If you don't have any anti-virus programs, get one. AVG is a pretty good free app to use. Get a copy of HiJackthis, Adware, and SpySweeper from someone. They're all free and can be downloaded.

As far as not booting from your restore disk, go in to BIOS and make sure that your computer is set to boot from CD-ROM.
