Services
Okay The problem i have is... most of my applications are not working, and i found out that its because the Services are stopped. So i run "msconfig" and enabled all the services. but yet it still fails. So i tried another method going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Service and tried to start but I get this error
"Could not start the Ipod service on Local Computer Error 5: Access is denied" and yes i am logged on at "administrator" |

Re: Services
Hi megangull
Quick-fix try: use System Restore, choosing a restore point from before the permissions problem appeared. Anytime you are faced with unusual system behavior, of course also run malware scans on as thorough settings as possible. Some threads around the net have found symptoms similiar to yours to be caused by an Hp Security Update for a service related to Hp printers (specifically, a service called "PML Driver HPZ12"), which seems to tangle permission settings --- http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?p=358451 --- especially check the post from g_goyal2000 on 4/21/2006 -- he also receives errors similiar to yours in msconfig and when working with services. Curiously, I just finished repairing a system that was having trouble with Hp drivers causing the system to 'freeze up' (stop responding) . . . and that same PML driver HPZ12 seems to have been part of the trouble. In that case, the drivers did not uninstall when the printer was uninstalled -- in fact, several generations of Hp printers had only been partially uninstalled. It took a fair amount of cleanup to get things right again. And then all was well. Repair reinstalls can often fix problems such as yours, but there are cautions and precautions to consider, as repair reinstalls can be troublesome in XP --- http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XP...l.htm#Warning1 Best of luck . . . Gary ... and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums! ... a moderator will likely move this thread over to the XP forum, as I imagine it landed here in the Windows 95/98/Me forum by accident.

Re: Services
Hi again
Have a look over at Michael Steven's articles on repair reinstalls of XP. Especially pay attention to the two (brightly-marked!) warnings that he gives. Should your system not be affected by those situations, you can give the repair reinstall a try. It's a good idea to backup your personal data (documents, music, videos, photos) beforehand (just in case). Best of luck . . . Gary P.S. ... Ah --- but before you try a repair reinstall, make sure to run some malware scans, if possible, as malware can cause a repair reinstall to fail. You can use a bootable CD to scan from, should your PC not be able to scan in it's present state. The "Ultimate Boot CD for Windows" is a good tool for this sort of thing, and it's not hard to make --- http://www.ubcd4win.com
