Remote Asistance requested for help with ME please !!
Happy holidays and greetings from the Bluegrass state of Kentucky!
I strongly desire for someone to provide, if at all possible, remote assistance with my system, as it seems to take up much too much time to e-mail back and forth trying to resolve issues. Forget taking it to the local shops here......they scan, clean and defrag, then charge $75-100 and tell you the hard drive i going bad. My system is, unfortunately, ME, with a PIII, 450Mhz, 512k cache, Diamond Viper V550 video card (from, say 1998?), and Sound Blaster sound card (also circa 1998). I am using ATT DSL service at 3MB seed via a Westell VersaLink model 327W wireless router (the system in question is connected to the router via LAN cable, the lapto is wireless). I have Spyware Doctor 4.1 on here, as Norton Internet Security 2007 (which I have on my laptop) is for XP and above, as are most other programs which might help solve my problems (th free ones are trial only and require purchase to actually remove the problems the software finds to be in need of repair). The problems I am experiencing are numerous, but here is a small taste.... A. When I right click on a desktop icon, the dropdown menu appears, but very briefly, not long enough to select an item from the menu and then left click to engage. B. When in Word docs, the line indicating where your typing stops/begins flashes/flickers instead of blinking at the regular pace C. When a program or dialogue box is open, the top of the box flickers These may be minor fixes, but as I say, around my area, incompetence in repairs is the norm, but hey, what option do I have, as I don't live near a metroplitan area. I would place my trust in anyone willing to chat with me in real time (I have a laptop I can communicate with someone to help guide them as they do exploratory surgery on my system). All this person(s) would have to do is access my computer, take a spin, and the problems would be self evident. It is my hope that someone will be willing to take on my dilemma and help a fellow neophyte (I have a pretty good working knowledge of how to solve most of the normal stuff, but can't find answers on the net to solve these specific issues, even less so now that Microsoft has discontinued support for Win 98 and ME) solve some distressing issues. Thanks and God bless. My direct e-mail is madisonvilleentertainment@yahoo.com |

Re: Remote Asistance requested for help with ME please !!
Hey mortgageguy66! There are a couple things that come to mind. First, as my friend once told me regarding electronic circuits, suspect anything and everything being methodical. If you did try Spy/malicious/virus software with no luck, here are a few things you can try. There are two ME older updates, KB891711 and KB918547. It has been a long time since I insatlled these so you'd have to see what fixes these handle. Also, in the control panel, click on system|performance|graphics and move the slider to "none." If that fixes it you can move it up one notch at a time to find the optimum range. Also, if your comfortable working with your registry (backup first!) expand your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and delete the ENUM key. Shut down the machine and clear your cmos (for best results) and turn it back on. Have all your drivers ready to re-install.
