Cry Can't install from CD after booting from diskete

Ok, i got this problem with Windows 98 (not SE) CZ (Czech version)

This problem occured since i bought & installed my DVD-RW device. I now have two devices, CD-RW and DVD-RW.

And everytime i try to install W98 from booted diskete, (using A:\Setup) it says:

CR1: Not Ready ( i think it means that it can't find CD anywhere in CD-ROM )
Retry, Cancel, Wrong

I was always able to start installation from CD-RW Device, but since i have DVD-RW device it shows this error. It is not bcuz of badly installed device, cuz a technician integrated that device & installed to my PC.

I can boot from CD-ROM, (WXP, W2000, etc) but i cannot start installation from booted diskete.

I had installed W98 so many times before, but now i can't.

Maybe something in BIOS, but i doubt it

Any help would be appriciated..... even (wrong) suggestions.

Thnx

Try disconnecting the DVD for the time being and have the cd-rom has master. Also, do you have the cd file on your boot disk? I believe its MSCDEX.exe but you'll want to verify, it's been a while since I've needed to use that.

My System

you can temporarily replace the dvd rw with any other cd-rom or cd-rw and install windows, then repace the dvd-rw when you are done installing.

what it sounds like is happening is something i almost would expect: the dvd-rw requires a driver that is not on the boot floppy.

i dont beleive there is a boot floppy that will have this driver, so the only way around it might be as described, using a different cd drive to install windows with.

although, this makes me ask, have you tried putting the cd in each drive, it might not be looking in the same drive as you are expecting.

boot from the floppy, and when it fails to see the cd, put the cd into the other drive and choose retry.
