Mistake 98SE Display Debaucle

I installed an ethernet card recently, and my computer refused to run it for a while. Eventually I coaxed it into working but after a reboot all of my display options reverted to their minimal state and refuse to be changed back. (16 colors, 480X640 pixels). I receive no error message, but everytime I try to change it back it has me restart windows, and when it restarts nothing is changed. Questions, theories, suggestions?

Try going into the Control Panel > System > Device Manager and check to see if there are any "!" next to a device (specifically, the video card).

You may need to update the video driver. If it's a laptop, you will have to download it from the laptop manufacturer. Also check to see if there are any updates for hardware regarding the PCMICA slot.

If you have a desktop, download the video driver from the video card manufacturer (nVidia, ATI, Matrox) or if it's onboard the motherboard, from the motherboard manufacturer.

If it's a desktop, it sounds like maybe you have a resource conflict between NIC & VGA. Maybe trying to share an IRQ. Did you put the NIC in the pci slot next to the agp slot?
