CDR 101 error message

Hey Gang!

Reformated and used boot disk to reload Win98 SE. Enabled CD Rom device upon bootup but received CDR101 error message - cannot read driveX. Have used boot disk many times and drivers have always worked in past. Can't figure if it's hardware or software problem. Here's what I've tried so far: 1) I checked my Win98 disk in my laptop and it works fine - so the disk's not the problem. 2) Ensured CD Rom enabled in NetBios 3)Checked CD tray for obstructions - Sounds like the cd is spinning in the tray and functioning mechanically (lights up, etc..) 4) checked ribbon & connector pins to CD Rom & motherboard - seem fine 5) Tried different drive for Rom - same prompt! Anybody have any other ideas - I'm out of ideas and don't want to waste money on the wrong gamble. Here's my system specs:
Motherboard CPU Type Intel Celeron-A, 500 MHz (7.5 x 67)
Motherboard Name - Intel Cayman CA810 (4 PCI, 2 DIMM, Audio, Video)
Motherboard Chipset - Intel Whitney i810
System Memory 64 MB (PC133 SDRAM)
BIOS Type AMI

Any ideas will be much appreciated! Thanks.

My System

You probably did this already, but take a look at this site to double check again. Remove the cd drivers if they are listed in the Device Manager. Restart and reinstall them and see what happens.

re: Greyknight17 suggestions

Hi Greyknight!

Thanks for your response. Two things: 1) You didn't leave me the link address to which you refered in your posting (unless you meant that I should recheck past Techsupport forum postings - which I've done) & 2) I can't check device manager because I reformatted and Windows 98 is gone. Anyting else you can think of would be most appreciated!
