product key for windows 98 upgrade SE.

i purchased a cd for windows 98 upgrade second edition at a thrift store it did not come with a product key how can i get one that will work with the cd i purchased.

i beleive that microsoft will sell you a key for 25$.

other than that, you can't get one.

I'm afraid you got ripped off my friend. You can probably find cd-keys online on various sites (usually full of spyware and adware, and possiby viruses).

or a more direct link no.to

However, these are illegal keys, so use them at your own risk. You can often find software for cheap, especially windows but always make sure it comes with the key

second link is better than first

If you're trying to reinstall 98SE on your own machine that originally came with same, look for your original key on the side of the box. I doubt however your key will work with an upgrade version. You therefore will need a copy of the original software disk.

Please note that posting to sites that contain things like warez is not allowed.

If you have the certifiicate of authenticity you may be able to get a code by calling MicroSoft. Not sure if anything can be done or not though.

sorry, I considered that and then figured it would be alright if I let him know it was illegal...but I was wrong.
