win98 cd no longer runs

I have 2 computers. one will recognise and run my win98 se cd the other won't!!! It will run any other cd however. this only came to light when i wanted to install a new optical mouse and i was asked to insert the cd for the drivers. does anyone know why this would happen?

Welcome to TSF.

Try using the other CDROM on the computer that didn't recognize the 98 CD. See if it works now.

thanks for that. Any CD will work in the "suspect" machine. Any except the win 98 one that is !!! I know it's not the cd as it works in my machine fine.

I have got round the problem by putting my cd drive in the "suspect" machine and copying win 98 to the hard drive. It has made the problem obsolete thou i would love to know why it didn't work in the first place.
