When I start up my friends pc it says explorer.exe error message and SHLWAPI.DLL error. She had no recovery cd or disk, didn't come with any. I downloaded the Win Me boot up disk. After i loaded that it comes to A:, after that I don't know where to go from there. any help thks

Someone will reply if they know the answer, so please be patient. There are problems that are difficult to find a solution to, but yours should be pretty simple.
Click here and download the dll file. Unzip it. Rename that old SHLWAPI.DLL to something like SHLWAPI.OLD and copy the dll file you unzipped into that same folder. Restart and see if the problem is still there.

my friend has the same problem in Win98se, but the solution you gave doesn't help because the computer can only boot to safe mode command prompt or dos command prompt. how can the .dll be repaired/replaced using one of those?
