please don't laugh

i'm running a 450 mhz, with a 6.5 gig hard drive, ok it's the kids computer. win 98 and nothing fancy. i want to format the drive, wipe it clean and install win 98 se. lately i've been getting just a few invalid page faults in kernel 32.dll, also re-starting the computer has been taking alot longer to boot than before, and i haven't really done anything to cause it to slow up. one intresting thing is when it finally does boot and it's all loaded, the first time you click on the blue e it takes a good couple minutes to display my homepage. after it loads the homepage, you can sign off and close i.e. then click again on the blue e and it loads right up with virtually no wait time. anyway my question is i need a step by step guide as to what i need to do to make my install of 98 se as clean as possible. anything i might need to fix or delete or whatever prior to fdisking and formatting thanks so much for not laughing to loud thanks john

Scan your computer with an antivirus program with all definition updates. If you do not have one, then use Trend Micro’s House Call Online AV Scanner.

Download Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Hijack This.

Install Adaware and Spybot -- update the definitions for each program before running.

Reboot after using each program.

Close all running programs and run HiJack This, click on "Scan" and save your Hijack Log to the Desktop, where you can find it easily.

Open your saved log, copy it and paste it in the Security, Anti-virus HiJack This forum.
