Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer and give us the tools to fix the problem you described.

One of a couple things are probably going on here.
a) You still have virii on your computer. I would suggest to run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus. Select the Autoclean option if you use TrendMicro. (DO FIRST) b) The previous virus damaged your Windows98 installation. Luckily with Win98, you can do another install "over top" of the current one as a method to repair. Keep that in the back pocket for now. Things to try: 1. Boot into Safe Mode (pres F8 before Windows logo appears durig boot). Run MSCONFIG (click Start/Run, type msconfig and press Enter). On the Startup tab, uncheck any box you see relating to the file's name you are getting in the error message. Reboot & check if any better. 2. Boot into Normal mode, click Start/Run, type sfc /scannow (with your Win98 CD in drive). Drop a line back if none of these help. |
