Winamp error problem

Hello,i have just downloaded the basic version of winamp.When i click on it to play my music,a window pops up-" this program has performed an illegal operation" Something about an invalid page fault.I'm using 98SE.Is there a better freeware system i can download off the net? Cheers,Bernie.

could you copy the "detailes" box of that illegal operation and post it here? It'll help pinpoint the problem.

And in my opinion, there is no better media player than winamp anywhere.

Ok,the error window reads "winamp caused an invalid fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 019f:bff7al25" Looks like chinese maths to me!
