Re: upgrading from 98se to xp

Ok ...

First off, it's best to do a clean install rather than an upgrade. In order to do this, you'll need your Windows 98SE CD (this will be needed to show XP that you're eligible to use the upgrade version).

If you still can, boot into 98 and make sure all your data is backed up (burn to CD, copy to an external drive).

Reboot into MS-DOS Mode and run FDISK (just type it in and press Enter). Delete your existing partition, and exit out. Put in your XP cd, and boot to it.

Follow the prompts to install XP, inserting your 98 cd when asked. Also, when asked, choose to format your drive NTFS (not quick).

Re: upgrading from 98se to xp

Hi,

Chevy is correct. No older Win version will install over a later one. You have to clean it off first.

Good Luck, Jim

She's actually going from older to newer (98SE to XP) ... Not the other way around ...

Waitress! Coffee for Mr. JLP, please ...
