Annoying Pop up list box on send in OE6

Outlook express 6 on a win 95 machine - auto complete turned on - works great, just like it's supposed to. But, when I hit the send button a list of everyone in my address book with the same first name pops up! really annoying since I already have the correct recipient in the To: field! Any one ever seen this and know how to turn that pop up off without turning off Auto-complete?

Re: Annoying Pop up list box on send in OE6

Hi jaybird101

Well, first of all, congratulate yourself for getting Outlook 6 to work at all on Windows 95 --- since both IE6 and Outlook 6 are supposed to require Windows 98 or newer:

Quote:
Outlook Express 6 is installed as a component of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. You can install Internet Explorer 6 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 98 or later or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a (SP6a) or later
(That quote is from Microsoft)

I believe the latest compatible versions for Windows 95 were IE 5.5 & it's bundled version of Outlook Express (which I'd assume is OE 5.5).

You could revert to 5.5 and see if that helps.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[By the way, nice work keeping Windows 95 going for twelve years. I don't have any Win95 running in anything other than emulation anymore].

Roll Eyes Re: Annoying Pop up list box on send in OE6

Gary - OOOPS - I misspoke (or mistyped) the machine is a 98 -R2 box not 95 (still a relic). It's not my machine it's a friends. Regardless, I have still never seen anything like before and it seems that no one else has either...
I was thinking maybe a plug in or something but I sure can't find anything like that on the machine.

Re: Annoying Pop up list box on send in OE6

Hi again

Hmm . . . it might still be interesting to see what reverting to 5.5 does, even if they decide to go back up to version 6 afterwards.

The other option might be to try the "repair" reinstall of IE, which for those earlier versions might repair Outlook as well - especially when the operating system is Windows 98. The "repair" option usually shows up either from the "Tools" menu of "System Information" [in Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information], or shows as an option when IE is selected in the Add-Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.

Seems like either might have a good chance of success.
Best of luck!
. . . Gary

[I should have figured the 95/98 typo . . . but I find that little software miracles have a way of popping up from time-to-time: and they are so intriguing when they do!]
