Need a quick favour
Hi guys!
I need a really quick favour from you that are running Windows 95, 98 or 2000. I need the default icon for the GIF file in gif format (I remember that it has a white age, with a green border and a red paintbrush on it). If possible, could you please let me know in which dll these icons are stored in (jpeg, tif, png, gif). I beleive they should be stored in the same dll. Thanks guys! |

Re: Need a quick favour
Hi aommaster
That sounds like the icon for Microsoft Paint accessory. Look in accessories [Start/Programs/Accessories] and see if the icon you want is used for Paint. If so, use Windows Explorer to search for a .gif file, then right-click on that file & place a checkmark in the box "always open with this program" (or similiar wording). If you don't see that checkbox, try again, only this time hold the Shift key down while right-clicking. [make sure, too, that MS Paint is the program selected for viewing]. See if that does it . . . Gary

Re: Need a quick favour
Thanks for your reply. I just got a friend to get the icon for me.
This is the way I do it: 1.Open the folder options 2.View the registered file extensions 3.Edit the GIf file extension 4.Click advanced 5.Click change icon 6.You have the registered dll there Thanks anyway! |

Re: Need a quick favour
Hi again
Glad you got things the way you like them. You can, in fact, using your method (editing the file extension association properties) choose any icon you'd like. Windows is fairly customizable for this sort of thing. I sometimes create personalized icons for a client who has a favorite shortcut on their desktop [the program is a favorite, but they don't like the default icon for it] - adds a nice touch. [Now all you have to do is save your favorite icon somewhere you can find it again --- in case a future graphics program install changes the associations :) ] Good work. . . . Gary

Re: Need a quick favour
Hehe...thanks for that! I didn't manage to find the icon's dll file itself, but just the image of the icon, which will suit my purpose (I could always incorporate the icon pack into a dll file if I needed anyway)
Thanks a lot for your time, I really appreciate it. |
