TnT2 won't work...Voodoo Banshee does???
This PC works fine with the STB Lightspeed 3300 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee chipset 16MB SDRAM AGP Video card and (3) 128MB PC100 SDRAM DIMMs.
But, if I install a Pines TnT2 nVidia chipset 32MB SDRAM AGP Video card, the PC boots to a blank screen after the Windows logo, or boots to Windows with the cursor hanging, or boots to Windows without any icons on the desktop with the cursor hanging, etc. If I remove (2) 128MB SDRAM DIMMs (in any 2 slots), and leave (1) 128MB SDRAM DIMM (in any slot) the PC boots fine. With 2 or 3 128MB SDRAM DIMMs, the PC goes ape! Obviously there's a conflict with the nVidia 32MB AGP card and the memory slots. Does anyone have any suggestions, as I'd rather use the nVidia 32MB card than the 3Dfx 16MB card? Thanks for any and all assistance. Re: TnT2 won't work...Voodoo Banshee does???
Hi Dead Toad
Those two video cards use different versions of AGP. The STB LightSpeed is an AGP 1x (rare bird nowadays), and the Pine TNT2 is an AGP 2x card (also pretty rare -- and truthfully, Pine was a so-so bargain-basement brand: the card may be faulty). If the motherboard can handle both AGP versions, you'd still likely have to specify which AGP version you wish to use in a Bios setting. There aren't any manuals easily available for such an old motherboard: so your best bet will probably be simply to enter Bios Setup and have a look around. Best of luck . . . Gary P.S. --- there's not going to be much difference in performance between the two cards, when running everyday programs in Windows 98. Only games from that era will run well on such a legacy system - not many needed much more firepower in 1998. So your easiest path is simply to leave the STB in.
