Re: ethernet drivers

What kind of nic do you have? Is this an add on card or built into the motherboard?

Either case you can just get the model number and log on to the appropriate manufacturer's website and search for the drivers.

Re: ethernet drivers

Hi simonvictor, Hi Rashiki

simonvictor - I imagine you likely know that when Rashiki mentions a "nic" he is referring to a network interface card. Your Windows Me computer might not have one. I'd be surprised if it did, and you didn't already have a driver installed for it [because Windows Me would likely detect it's presence and prompt you to install a driver].

However, if you do have an ethernet port - whether on an add-on card, or built into the motherboard, you can check in Device Manager to see if it's been detected. Go to the Contol Panel/System/Device Manager & look under the "Network adapters" category [click the plus (+) sign next to the category to see the list] -- and see if your adapter is listed.

If your adapter is listed, but has a yellow exclamation mark beside it, the correct driver is indeed not installed. There may be other devices that aren't installed correctly - while in Device Manager, check for any others, too.

Just as Rashiki guided you -- visit the websites of the device manufacturers to download drivers - make sure, of course, to get those matching your version of Windows.

Before putting the new drivers in (should you find any that need installing), first get rid of the older, incorrect drivers. Boot into Safe Mode [start tapping the F8 key as your PC is starting, and choose "Safe Mode" from the menu]. Then visit Device Manager again - and select the devices with yellow exclamation points & then select "Remove". Then reboot: and cancel any "New Hardware Found" screens. Then follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, and install the new drivers.

Best of luck
. . . Gary
