Suprised Win95 Won't Install

After reformatting a hard drive, Windows 95 won't install.
It gets to a point then issues this error message:
"While initializing device IOS:
Windows protection error: You need to restart your computer".

I removed everything on the mobo except the video card, CPU/heatsink, and RAM.

After restarting, this repeats over and over.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.
DT

==============

I did some research and found that the K6-2/450MHz CPU has some issues with Win95. I downloaded the K6-2 update from MS to fix this issue.
I am rehabbing this old PC, I built it around 10-11 years ago.
I have one with Vista Home Premium, one with XP Pro, one with ME, one with 98SE, and one with Linux Ubuntu Feisty Fawn v7.04.

Re: Win95 Won't Install

Hmm... it might be pushing it, but have you tried 98 on this machine? I've gotten it to work on slightly more powerful machines. You definitely have the RAM for it.

EEK! Re: Win95 Won't Install

Fox,
I figured it out!
I moved the network card from PCI slot #2 and put it in PCI slot #3, then Win95 loaded up fine.
I knew it had to be a slot issue.
Even after I installed the AMDK6UPD.exe update http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...s/amdk6upd.exe and the IOSUPD.EXE update ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/iosupd.exe, it still didn't work.

I could not even enter Safe Mode under any circumstances. But, moving the network card did it. A PCI slot conflict issue.
Thanks for the effort.
DT.

By the way, I actually have Win98SE on the C:\ drive and Win95 vC on the D:\ drive now.
I just go into BIOS at startup and change to the drive/OS I want to boot into.
Works fine.
