software to burn DVD

Hi all
I'm using win ME I rcently bought a Pioneer DVD burner/player to make home movise with sony HC The DVD came with NERO but would not burn. Said I did not have rights to burn??? After a $70.00 upgrade to nero 7 which was not compatible with ME and going to the Nero site many times still not able to burn. The question is what software is available to burn DVD's in WinME?
thanks to all
ps
I've been reading a lot here and seems like a lot of good advice from knowledgable people
peace

Re: software to burn DVD

Hi fbbrew

The newer versions of Nero, as you're discovered, no longer support Windows Me (or Win98/98se either). The system requirements for the newer video programs can be fairly beefy, and those for Nero 7 are no exception [just to confirm the requirements, here's a direct link to those --- http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero_7...uirements.html

Luckily, Nero versions 6 or earlier do support Windows Me. The system requirements are also a lot easier for older systems to meet --- http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_6...uirements.html

You can try an older version of Nero available from oldversion.com --- http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero

There are also open-source/freeware/shareware programs that can edit and burn videos - you can research such titles at download sites such as download.com -- which has fairly extensive feedback - overviews from the software authors, reviews from the editors, and user reviews. You'd search in the "Audio & Video Software" sections for recording & editing software.

Quick little tip-- for the best results on older systems, create the image and save to a hard drive first, and burn at a recording speed at least 25% less than the recorders maximum speed.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[You may want to see if you can get your $70 refunded from Nero - if you upgraded from them directly. Let them know that your system is running Windows Millennium: it's a simple enough mistake, they might allow for that: it keeps customers happy].

Gary
Thanks for the input! I'll check out what you said. No luck with a refund from Nero tried already.

Re: software to burn DVD

Hi, Silly question - Make sure the burner can burn CD and DVD. Lot's of them are only designed to burn CD but to play CD and DVD. MAYBE?

Good Luck, Jim

Re: software to burn DVD

Chances are your old PC is going to be woefully inadequate for editing home movies. You oughta think about buying a modern PC with the cheapest optical drive you can find then pop those new parts (hardware and software) into the new PC.
