File disappears after right-clicking
Hi,
I am having a problem when I right-click on files in My Documents, planning to rename or copy the file. When I right-click a file, it disappears completely - before I've had a chance to copy or rename. I've gone into Recycle Bin and the missing file is not there. Sometimes I can copy/rename files fine, but then all of a sudden files will start disappearing as soon as I right click on them - this morning I've lost three photos from my PC. Since they are not in the Recycle Bin I'm hoping they may still be somewhere on my PC. 1. Does anyone know how to recover the missing files? 2. Does anyone how to prevent this problem occuring in the future? I am using Windows XP 5.1. Thanks. |

Re: File disappears after right-clicking
Hi Kiwi47
To rule out a faulty mouse as the cause --- with Windows shutdown & the power off --- replace the mouse with another. If the mouse is a wireless mouse, check the batteries, and check for any nearby devices that might be interfering with the mouse's wireless signal to it's receiver. Should that not fix the trouble, some mice have advanced drivers that allow users to program in different functions than the default actions for different sorts of mouse clicks. Check in your mouse driver (in Control Panel) and see if you can set the mouse to defaults - which may fix the problem. Should that not do it, you can try using the Windows XP built-in "System Restore" program -- using a restore point from a date before this trouble started. Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Should that also not fix things, if your mouse has fancy extra buttons & wheels - try downloading and installing a recent driver from the manufacturer's website. _______ To find your pictures, first try a search ---either from your Start Menu, or from within Windows Explorer. Seach the entire hard drive. If you just can't find those files anywhere, you can try a program such as PC File Inspector to try and recover recently deleted files --- http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm Best of luck . . . Gary [Sounds like this system is a Windows XP system? We'll see if we can move this to the XP forum in a bit]

Re: File disappears after right-clicking
I have the same problem. When I right-click excel, word, pdf, jpg and other types of files in My documents they disappear. When I copy those files directly on my desktop there's not problem. But when I copy the whole folder in which they are on the desktop, I have the same problem. When I copy them in a new folder on the desktop, it still happens. It doesn't happen to all my files, but I can't tell the difference between those that disappear and those that don't.
