I turn on my computer, after I see Windows ME logo it goes to black screen (RESOLVED)
After I updated my malware removal program,I removed around 8 malware on my computer. When I restarted my computer,Win ME goes to blackscreen.
Is there a way where I can fix this without reinstalling Win ME? I can go into safe mode, just not in regular mode,I think driver must be broken. Last edited by Lyceum : 03-01-2007 at 08:47 PM. |

What program did you update and use to remove malware?
Can you boot into Safe Mode? At what point in the boot process does the screen go black?

Wow,I just fixed it and I can get into my desktop. But says Winini.exe missing, but im able to get in computer.
I think it started with the malware sweeper,in regular mode sweeper detected 8 infections. After I removed it and restart computer,I cannot get in regular mode,so i went in safe mode. In safe mode I used sweeper,it detected 3 infections,so I removed it. Then when I restart computer after Win ME logo,it says Wininit.exe missing, then got into desktop. When I use sweeper now, there are 5 infections. I DO NOT want to remove it,afraid that it will cause the problem again. Also on desktop it says "Windows cannot find /P" what does that mean? my computer works fine other than that. |

I think I should get rid of Malware Sweeper,it is causing alot of problems. I think I got wininit.exe to work, extracted it from my Win Me CD to my windows system folder. I'll wait and see if I can get an expert to help me.

Hi Lyceum
If you've a thread going in the HiJackThis forum, let them have a good go at helping you cleanup things. They might be a bit busy, but I'm sure you'll get some good help there soon. There are several types of reinstalls, some which can keep much of the current setup and data intact, while restoring damaged portions of the operating system. These 'in-place' reinstalls might do the trick for you fairly well, once the system is free of malware. Let us know when your system gets a clean bill of health, and we'll explore the reinstall options. . . . Gary

This might be the problem. If not, the last resort is to reinstall Win ME. |

Hello,I have completely fixed this problem.
It turned out Malware Sweeper thought the Wininit.exe and some registry were infections,it turned out, malware sweeper deleted important items for windows, which cause windows to not load. I had to get Wininit.exe from my Win ME CD and used boot disk and type RegScan to fix my computer. It is now back to normal,I have to be more careful when removing malware from my computer. ![]() |
