you cannot logically merge 2 seperate HDs. to get just 1 drive letter C: with 60GB you would need to use RAID using JBOD method array. i don't know for sure, but that might mean wiping the information on the existing HDs, but you would need a controller card to setup the array. plus you would not get anything more than what you already have at the moment.
why do you want to merge the 2 drives?

Hi, No need to clean either drive. Tell us what type of data is on each drive and what you intend to have on the finished single drive and someone here will be able to help you. If the second drive is nothing but data it may be as simple as making a new Folder on the drive and copying the data over. Also may be using Partition Magic to make a new partition and CLONING the data over. Depends on what the data is.
Good Luck, Jim |

ok, so when you click on merge does a second dialogue box open giving you options on what way you want to merge the partitions?
what way does the disk manager show the HD setup in windows. if you right click on my computer and select manage. then select disk management. if you want you can upload an image of the manager.

Hi Dilly5, hi all
Dilly5 - can we assume that it's Partition Magic that you are using? (and you just reversed the title?) - If so, for many tasks, Partition Magic needs to reboot the computer in DOS, and carry out the partitioning task there. You just make the "to-do" list while you're in the Windows portion of the Partition Magic program, then the dirty work gets done in DOS. It should offer to reboot after you tell it what work to schedule. That's an excellent program - look in on the "Help" menu, just to make sure you didn't miss a step - their guides are nicely detailed, & I imagine you'll have the drives successfully merged soon. Best of luck . . . Gary [p.s. freddy - like I often do, you might've forgotten for a moment that we're in the Win9x side of life in this thread - no Disk Management in Win9x. You'll have to goof many more times, though, to catch up with me - I could be the record-breaker :) ]

Hi,
With Partition Magic you can only merge adjacent partitions. You may have to move the partition sizes around a little more than planned because of this. You can still normally achieve what you ant to do by merging partitions, and changing sizes. Then reducing the size of existing and creating a new partitions. My main tips for using Partition Magic Back up all data before making any changes. Carry out changes one by one returning to Windows each time. Don't set up several partition changes etc and simply press go. Takes a little longer but is a great deal safer. Create the Partition Magic Rescue Disks Don't carry out the changes in bad weather when there is an increased risk of a power outage or use a UPS. A power cut when using Partition Magic is likely to seriously ruin your day. hth Ceri |
