memory test fail
Hi,
Every time I turn on the computer(win 98) I get this message 'memory test fail' with the option to F1 to continue (computer often freezes) or DEL to enter SETUP (which takes me to a blue page with may options I have no idea about). I would be ery grateful if anyone can offer any help to rectify this - thanks a lot. gerg |

Hi,
I don't mean to go simple here, but have you removed your Ram and reseated it, making sure it clicks clear down in so the little clips on the side go into the upright position when you insert the ram? A second thought, if you have two sticks of ram, remove one and try it that way and see if you get the error. Might also be a good idea to tell us about your computer...motherboard, CPU, Ram (number and brand), etc....just tell us about your system. Last edited by mark3567; 08-29-2004 at 06:38 AM. |

Welcome to Tech Support Forums
Yeh probably one of them has come unseated Swapping them around can also help. As the above mentioned, let us know more about your Hardware set-up, then we can help you solve the problem.

Thank you very much for you replies.
I have tried taking out the RAM sticks and replacing them securely but unfortunately nothing has changed. The computer is Windows 98SE. It has an Intel Pentium II processor. There is 64 RAM. There are two 32RAM sticks: 1) LGS GM72V16821CT10K 9810G Korea 2) Apacer AM2V168A1T8 9847C 1AA The three slots for the RAM sticks are DIMM 1, 2 and 3. I'm not sure if any of this information is useful, but if you can offer any other advice I would be very grateful. Thanks. gerg |

hmm... every once in awhile the Power On Self Tests (POST) will actually detect a memory error, and in your case, it looks like it did... think i would start by POSTing with one dimm at a time, to see which one is producing the failure, then throw it away or replace it with a larger capacity dimm... could be other things, such as memory timing, but its usually a failing dimm... if i remember those errors correctly, they are usually followed by a memory address, which is usually unhelpful if you dont know how memory is addressed
