vidoes/mp3 play really fast?!?

I think I metioned this a while back, possibly before the infamous server crash. No one seemed to be able to help, but I though i'd bring it up again.

On my computer, sometimes, when playing videos, mp3s and other media files, my computer does a really odd thing, where it tries to play them too fast (probably around 1.5-2x normal). But it tries to play it at normal speed as well, so what happens is it plays the file at normal speed, but then to keep up with its high speed self, it has to miss out bits of the file.

You can listen to a recording of this happening (file played in Media Player 9, recorded and encoded to mp3 using GoldWave 5) at http://uk.geocities.com/kilkennyesu/jerkyfile.mp3

So far, I have found that this only happens in certain programs.

Affected: Windows Media Player 9, a driving test hazard perception cd-rom (the hazard perception test is in the form of videos), Yahoo Launch Cast Radio, and internet streems that use Media Player as their base. Creative Media Source. And probably some others.

Not affected: MusicMatch Jukebox, Real Player.

I have tried reinstalling various applications, to no avail. It doesn't seem to be a hardware/cooling problem, as it always happens in some programs and never in others (i.e. no programs only do it sometimes)

Does anyone have any suggestions, its REALLY ANNOYING!

Tim
