Win98 SE boots up to Blue Screen of Death. I did a scan disk, scanreg /fix and had no luck with these. Doing a SFC I did find one corrupted file, user.exe, that I replaced. I've also installed the Win98 SE service pack/patch. None of these things have helped. Has anyone got any suggestions of what to try?

Blue Screen of Death
Thanks for replying to my post. Yes it does boot to safe mode. I tried doing a MSCONFIG in the safe mode taking out the startup files, and eventually I had everything off which did not help at all. Also, at one point I did a reinstall of Win98. I've had no luck. Can't figure out why it will boot to safe mode but when I turn off the startup files using msconfig it doesn't help solve the problem. Weird stuff. Any other ideas?
Oh yes, and no recent hardware or software changes. |

As a last ditch effort I removed all cards in the computer except the video card. Low and behold it booted up. I then put back each card until I found the culprit. It was my sound blaster card. Now I will replace the card and sleep soundly tonight. Thanks to all who helped!
