a bit different from th e NTLDR problem ><...
I recently found some useful data in my old computer (Win98 installed) and wanted to transfer them to my current computer (WinXP installed), so I just simply brought the HD and attempted to move the files by installing the HD (formatted FAT32) into my current computer.
The message "NTLDR is missing, press Alt + Ctrl + Del to restart" showed up, I didn't think much of it as I have already experienced this problem before. (it seemed as my newer computer attempted to convert my old HD without prompt and therefore screwed something up) I took out a win98 startup disk and used it (with my old computer of course) to solve the problem, however it did nothing at all. Unable to start windows, I tried checking the contents of my HD, but the HD wasn't detected (weird thing is, in the BIOS startup log it was able to detect the HD) Then I tried the same procedure w/ my newer comp, same results occured. Does anyone have any idea? Any help is appreciated, if you experts require more information I will provide them. |

I dont have a solution for you but. I wanted to do the same thing but my both comps were Win XP Pro. I took my old hd and connected to my friends comp as a slave. When we restarted the comp the windows said something and it was doing something so HD would work properly. Ok if you were switching HD on your new computer than i have a solution for you. Put the old(win 98 HD) HD into your new comp and wait till it gives you some errors and othwer crap. than restart computer and change the HD. Other than that i have no idea.

If you changed the jumpers on the drive(s), make sure to put them exactly where they were. Try them in the original systems first.
If that works, check the 98 drive for an overlay. You should see a message before the windows 98 splash screen that says: Push spacebar to boot from floppy, or something to boot from floppy. (Each company is different.) If you have an overlay on the drive, post back. If you get both systems running, make sure to only change the jumper on the 98 drive to slave then install in your xp system. If that doesn't work. Use your secondary IDE controller by unplugging your cd-roms and plugging the 2nd hard drive in by itself on that controller and trying.

Hi There................
I Hope I Could Be Of Some Assistence.............. You Have To resolve both Hardware & Software problem Hardware--- HardDisk To Detect Software---- NTLDR Error First What Is NTLDR? (It Is Not A Crap File Baby, And Computer Never Talks Crap When In Need Of Help Always Write Down The Full Error. ) It Stands For NewTechnology LoDeR A Boot Up File Required By Win NT , Win 200,WinXP, Win 2003 To Boot The OS. What Is Master Drive? The Drive Whose operating System Will Run. What Is Slave Drive? The Drive whose Mere Job Is To Show It's Contents. Note :-- Becareful Of shifting Of Drive Letters If Your BIOS Did'nt Detect Your HDD It Might B BCoz Both The HDD's Are Set To Master. No Man Can Serve Two Masters (Said By Jesus Christ) Nor Can A Computer If You Are Sure The Win98 Installed HDD Is Working Fine.Try This.......... Check The Jumpers Of HDD On Which WinXP Is installed The jumpers Sholud Be On Pins 1&2 i.e First Two Pins (Top & Bottom) From Right Of The IDE Connector (40-Pin Connector). Do This If Your HDD Had Only One Jumper , If It Has two Jumpers Leave The Jumpers As They Are. Remove The Jumpers From HDD Which Has Win98 Installed,.... Yes.. remove Each Jumper From It.This Will Make The HDD A Slave drive. Now try Attaching The HDD's To The IDE Cables.... I Hope This Works If It Does'nt Try removing Your CD-Rom And Adding The Win98 Installed HDD There This Will Make The BIOS To Detect The HDD. If You recieve The NTLDR Error Your XP Has Pissed Off. If Restarting Does Not Corrects The problem, Maybe The HDD Not Work Alone Also. You May Need To Reinstall XP Again. But If Still Wanna Continue With The Transfer.... Make The HDD With Win98 As Master (Jumpers On 1&2) & The HDD With WinXP As Slave (Remove All Jumers) Start Your PC You Will Be greeted With The Windows 98 Logo. If The Problem Still persists Post The HDD's Manufacturers Name, Some drives Like Quantum Resists From becoming A slave ( It Comes From A Royal Family)C Ya (In Hell )
