98se reinstall problem(RESOLVED)

Hi All,

Completely re formatted and reinstalled my 98SE machine. Everything works fine except the machine recognised a PCI Input Controller. The machine can't find a driver for it (not even at windows update) and I have no idea what the device might be... like I say everything SEEMS to be working fine.

How do I find out what this device is... then maybe I can hunt for a driver for it?

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Possibly a modem, soundcard, or even the motherboard chipset. Do you have a modem or sound card installed? Do you have the cd that came with the motherboard?
In order to get drivers you may need to take any adapter cards out and obtain the informatoin off the piece itself and look on the manufacturers website

Hi, Windoze sometimes comes up with such a message and you never find out what it is. Go into SYSTEM MANAGER and see if it's there with a Red ! or ?. Turn it off there by clicking the box near the bottom of the window. If everything then works OK ignore it. Sometimes Windoze fixes it later. May not be your problem, but who knows.

Good Luck, Jim

Thanks all,

Turns out that the sound card had a games port. That was it! Got it up and running. Thanks again
