Share problem - Win98
One of my computers is having a share problem on a Win 98 SE workstation running a DOS application that is totally contained on the workstation. The workstation is networked to a Win NT Computer. Once the workstation is rebooted, everything works fine including the DOS application. Sometime later, when trying to run the DOS app, I will get a share violation on drive C on the workstation. Also, every Monday after trying to send an order via modem from this workstation, after rebooting, the PC locks up and must be powered off to reboot. The communication completes correctly, but the PC locks up. This DOS app is running on many other Win 98, Win 98 SE, Win ME, XP Home & Pro PC's with no problems, some on networks, others just stand alone PC's. There is nothing special running in the background of windows. Nothing in the SysTray except the clock, Volume and Task Scheduler. My workstation drive has Share checked for the drive in the newwork setup so that others can access this workstations drive. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I don't believe the share violation you're getting has anything to do with networking. I've seen that before, and it's related to how applications open files. Does this file get opened by more than one application?

Thanks for the reply. I did some additional checking/testing and the first thing that starts when trying to run the App, is BTRIEVE 5.0, which also gets a sharing violation. After rebooting the PC, everything runs and starts OK. If the app is shut down properly, everything runs OK. So, I tried starting the App, hot keyed back to windows, opended up the icon on the task bar and forced the App to close. When restarting the App, I got the sharing violation everytime after that until a reboot. I had even disconnected this PC from the network and made sure there was no other influence that was causing the problem. The only thing that I can think of is that Windows is not releasing the locks properly. I've tried the same senario (closing an App on the task bar) on other PC's running Win 98 and there is no problem. Is there anything that you can think of outside of reloading windows 98SE and applying all the patches? Thanks in advance.
