desperately in need of help
hello my name is doug .
i own a compaq computer that currently looks as though it is in the safe mode of windows 98. for what ever reason it wont let me change the color. everytime i try to change it to 265 i reboot and it comes back online reset to 16 bt. is any one aware of a step i may be missing? i have tried seeting it to 265 then hitting apply then reboot i have tried reseeting it to 265 then hitting ok and rebooting always goes back to 16 and also in the advanced where it says change without restarting does not let me do that either it always restarts thank you also my email address is *********** thank you Last edited by koala; 11-28-2006 at 09:13 PM. Hi Doug, Do you mean it is in Safe Mode or only acts like it is? Safe mode will only let you run in 640 X 480 and 16 colors. If you are actually able to change the setting then you are not in Safe Mode. Your best bet is to reload the video drivers for your Video.

What graphics card do you have? As Jim says, try reinstalling the drivers then reboot.
ATI and nVidia are the two most common makers of graphics cards (links below). If you have onboard graphics, you can find the drivers on your motherboard CD or the manufacturer's website. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
