Red Faced Windows ME Help. I can't even get past the Log In now...

Hi! I really need some help. I own a laptop with a lot of school work in it. I was trying to reinstall Windows Me from my own laptop setup files and everything was working fine until I was told to restart the computer. After the laptop restarted, the setup continued. The setup asked to input my Name and Company (company being optional). After I entered my name and clicked next, A popup came up saying that the Ender User Licence or Agreement or something like that doesn't agree with the setup or something like that. Then it says the setup will close. So then the laptop turns off and I turn it back on thinking it will go back to the way it was before the setup. Well, it doesn't It just keeps on doing the same thing over and over again starting with the Name and Company thing leaving me unable to reach any of my files. These are REALLY important files to me. PLEASE HELP! What can I do so I can just at least be able to get my files out?

You can slave the hard drive using an adapter (2.5" Hard Drive to 40 Pin IDE http://www.casecooler.com/3drto2dr.html) and possibly get the information off the laptop drive onto the desktop drive

Sounds like a good idea! Theres just one thing that I am not sure of it will work. I mean, I can't even log into my laptop because it just turns off. And anyway, I can't get to my files in any way. Does this product just automatically take the files from my laptop and transfer it into a destop without me manually putting or doing it myself?

Or am I like totally off and I have to take the laptop apart or something? I really don't know. ^_^' Thanks for your help and time.

You are going to need to remove the hard drive from the laptop, connect it to the desktop as a slaved drived, then you have to manually locate the files and transfer them over.
As long as you didnt format the drive while attempting to install the O.S. your files should still be on there.

How were you doing this?

Ohhh now I get it. Thanks for all the help! I'm gonna try doing that ^_^.

Oh, to answer your question:

My laptop already had Windows Me installed so I found the setup and was trying to reinstall. I don't know if that answers your question but thats the best way I can put it.

Hi, You will need a 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" laptop to desktop adaptor. About $10.00 on EBay. You don't need the one with the mechanical adaptor to mount the drive in the PC just the electrical connector.

Good Luck, Jim

OK, I'll try that out. Not right away but maybe around December 15 because I have been very busy with some other things in my life being a student.

Thanks!
