Hi, A low battery usually just loses the time and date and gradually gets to the point of losing everything. Make sure you have the battery jumper set correctly. Your MB manual should show you it's location and setting. It will be 3 pins marked 1, 2 and 3. Usual setting is 1 and 2 to run and 2 and 3 to reset the bios setup. Some MBs will not run with the jumper in the reset position. Reset with all AC power removed. The battery is at Radio Shack and is #CR2032 about $3.30. If you have a voltmeter it should read 3 volts and work down to about 2 volts.
Good Luck, Jim |

Hi again Delbert, I'm not surprised that the Batt was good. They should hold up for 5 to about 8 years as practically no current is drawn by the CMOS. I have seen one brand new MB dead because of a "Dead" batt. The batt holder can get damaged if the batt is not removed correctly. Thanks again for the thanks. It helps a lot to know that the info you supplied helped someone. I usually try to give enough info to help the asker and anyone else who may be interested. The CMOS Setup circuit is designed with extra capacitance to let you change the batt without losing you settings. Some designers supply enough so that you can take the battery with you to the store and still not lose the settings. 2 to 3 hours plus may be the average.
Thanks again, Jim Last edited by Jlp1928; 11-27-2006 at 08:30 AM. |
