SMC 7901 not working on Win98SE through USB

Hello! My name is Apoorva. My Title explains half the story but still I would explain it in depth. I am using SMC 7901 BRA ADSL+2 Router.

I had connected this router to my Computer through a USB Connection. When I log onto Win98SE, it does detect the router and displays a " New Hardware Found " window to proceed with it's installation.

I followed a series of steps and at the end, selected the driver (INF file),
( supplied by the manufacturer ), but my router could not be located.

Does anybody have any idea as for how should I solve this problem?

Quick reply in this case will be highly appreciable!

Anything in the Device Manager? Yellow question marks or exclamation points?

Hello! Thanks for yr reply. Well, there is not Yellow or Red exclamation mark in the Device Manager window.

For your convience, I have attached a file which contains screenshots taken while installing the driver for this SMC Router under Win98se.

Kindly have a look at it and see if you could come up with some help.

Does any other usb device work in that usb port you are trying to use?
Have you looked in the BIOS for anything that may be disabled?

On screenshot 2, why dont you chose Search for the best driver for your device and then place the cd in the drive? Then screenshot B you should place a checkmark in cd-rom drive.
Usb drivers are a bugger to install on Win98 sometimes

I sometimes have better luck with USB stuff, by installing the software for the device first, and then plugging the device in, if thats an option for you, then it cant harm to try it
