Corrupted Solitaire?
I was helping my uncle with his old dell xps windows 98se, and it seems the solitaire game is corrupted. There is a smaller green screen (like normal) and arabic letters at the top of the screen, but there are no cards on the screen, its all blank. I tried deleting and re installing the games folder with all 4 games from the windows 98se disc, and it still seems corrupted. Freecell, Hearts, and Minesweeper all work, its just solitaire that doesnt. He is not online yet, so its not like i can get some generic game off of there. Does anyone know what i could have done wrong? I saw a similar thread, but it didnt help.
Thank You! |

Hi SuperSport
You mentioned you "deleted and reinstalled the games folder with all 4 games from the windows 98se disc" --- exactly how did you reinstall from the Windows 98se CD? If you didn't use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel, try again, using that tool. Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup ... and from the Accessories category, uncheck the Games to perform the necessary uninstall routines. Then reboot, and go to that same spot again Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup ... and this time in the the Accessories category, replace the checkmark next to Games - this should reinstall them completely. If that doesn't work, try updating the video drivers. You can try running your DirectX diagnostics, too - to see if those files are OK. [Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Tools/DirectX Diagnostics] Solitaire, strangely enough for such a small program, managed to conflict with a lot of other programs (everything from Instant Messaging programs like AIM, to security programs from McAfee and Norton). A quick Google search will yield a fair number of results for repairs to try. Best of luck . . . Gary
