Message: another OS on system after format?
Installing 98se over 98. I used EZ to format and partician, yet when the option comes up for installing I get a recommend to exit. Since I belived my EZ did the job I ignored and installed. Question why does this not give me a clear go ahead after EZing the drive. Thank you. Jay

Hi Jay
Not exactly sure what your question is - or exactly what installation you've just completed. What sort of installation did you wish to accomplish? The message that recommends exiting without installing occurs when Windows Setup finds an installation of Windows already on the target partition. If you had meant to run an "upgrade" install (98 to 98se), you'd have needed either an Upgrade version CD, or tried the "over-the-top" sort of method --- http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=70846 If you had meant to run a clean install, apparently you didn't remove the older partition containing your original Windows 98. If you still want to do that, just use the fdisk utility built into the Windows 98se CD (or, if your hard drive is larger than 60gb, use the fdisk utility from a Windows Me bootable floppy --- you could find one at bootdisk.com). If you need instructions on how to use fdisk, here's the well-known guide at Radified --- http://fdisk.radified.com/ Best of luck . . . Gary

Hi, EZ is the BIOS extension for larger drives on Maxtor's Maxblast setup disk. EZ is only to be used if your BIOS can not handle your new drive because it is too large. You should be using the Drive Setup feature to clean and repartition the drive. Only to be used if the drive has no back sectors etc. as Maxblast gets it's speed by not doing a complete format and sector check of the drive. It was intended for a new drive. If this is not what you are doing then please give more info.
Good Luck, Jim |
