Win 98 boot problems
Heres the deal, owner got some very bad advice and has screwed up his computer. In my attempts to fix it, I can not even boot from the CD-ROM drive. Is there any way to get this thing working? It will boot into safe mode, but not into windows.
When in safe mode, it does not recognize the CDROM or DVD ROM. Last edited by jasoncarle; 11-07-2006 at 04:47 PM. |

I have been into the BIOS and told it to boot from the CDROM, but it wont.
I also just tried a Win98SE boot disk, no go. It starts from the HDD to a screen that says, repairing C:WINDOWS/SYSTEM.DAT and hangs up at 4-6% What do I do now? Last edited by jasoncarle; 11-07-2006 at 04:45 PM. |

Hi, Microsoft Win98 and 98 SE CDs do not boot. Get a 98 startup floppy disk. It will set up the CD to read. Make one on another 98 system or download one from the net. Mad Boot will do the job, but there are many more to be had. Boot the floppy. Run the Setup.Exe file on the CD.
Good Luck, Jim |
