DirectX 9.0c.

DirectX 9.0c doesn't work with Windows 98 Second Edition anymore. It said that some files with my graphics card drivers didn't go well with it... this is what it says:

The file ATI2DRAG.DRV is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). Current drivers tested for a WHQL logo are only available on Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. New Windows 98 drivers are no longer tested for WHQL logos.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
To test Direct3D functionality, click the "Test Direct3D" button above.

When I click on Test Direct3D, it closes DXDiag.

Hi, The error message does not mean that the driver is bad. It means that Microsoft has not approved it. If it works OK then just forget the message.

Good Luck, Jim

It doesn't work though. Direct3D doesn't work when I test it (even the DirectX 7.0 interface.). Only DireectDraw works. When I try to run Battlefield 1942, it closes and won't load up.

It could be that you have corrupt drivers.
Check out the latest drivers for your card and either do an upgrade driver or re-install driver to see if that helps.
I had a similar problem in XP recently when virtually every driver it tried to install came up with that "not signed by Microssoft" warning. I ended up doing a repair install (easier in Win9x you just re-install over the top) to reset all the drivers in the install.

Ok, I guess it was just a faulty install... when I find the time, I will do a reinstall of Windows 98. Thanks for the help :) .

My System

I can find no reference to the fact that your card is supported by Win98SE

Avisit to radeon site brought forth this info.

Quote:
Specifications
System Requirements
Intel® Pentium® 4/III/II/Celeron™, AMD-K6®/Duron™/Athlon™/Athlon™ XP or compatible with
AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X).
128MB of system memory
Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
DVD playback requires DVD drive
Graphics Technology
RADEON® 9550 Visual Processing Unit (VPU)
Memory Configuration
256MB of double data rate memory

Operating System Support
Windows® XP
Windows® 2000
so while your mobo (for which I find NO details) might support your Graphics card, might support windows 98 thru Vista, I suspect that the combination DirectX 9.0c plus Win98SE plus ATI Radeon is a no go ... have you ever had this combination running or is it something you just tried now.

It has worked many times before, but not this time :( . ATI has drivers for Win98SE. That says something about it.

Edit: DirectX 8 and DirectX 7 both say the same thing...

Ok, I decided that I will go back with Windows XP. Can someone tell me if this is true or not:

That DirectX 9.0c needs a lot of RAM, and I only have 256 MB RAM.
And if DirectX 8 will work better on my computer which has a CPU of 800MHz Intel P3

What I'm trying to find out is, will DirectX 8 make me lag less that DirectX 9?
