win98 startup problem

hello,

I am trying to save an old puter of mine. It runs windows 98.

Whenever I start it, it boots up fine, I log onto one of the users, loads the desktop and some of the toolbar icons and then it just freezes. The mouse still moves but I cant click anything or right click. nothing.

ctrl alt del wont bring up the task manager but if I tap them enough I will get the dreaded blue screen and then if I tap them some more it will restart.

I booted it up in safe mode and that works fine. I have run scandisk/disk defrag/whatever but they dont do anything. Im guessing this has something to do with a boot drive perhaps but I dont know how to fix that.

Hi binny welcome to TSF

Most times if it boots into Safe Mode without issues its most likely a driver issue.

What was the health on this system before you booted it? Did it run good, infected with viruses

Does it freeze using all the users? Have you tried differnt users? Whats running at startup? Anything out of the norm in the Device Manager?
