win98 startup problem
hello,
I am trying to save an old puter of mine. It runs windows 98. Whenever I start it, it boots up fine, I log onto one of the users, loads the desktop and some of the toolbar icons and then it just freezes. The mouse still moves but I cant click anything or right click. nothing. ctrl alt del wont bring up the task manager but if I tap them enough I will get the dreaded blue screen and then if I tap them some more it will restart. I booted it up in safe mode and that works fine. I have run scandisk/disk defrag/whatever but they dont do anything. Im guessing this has something to do with a boot drive perhaps but I dont know how to fix that. grateful for any assistance, cheer -binny |

Hi binny welcome to TSF
Most times if it boots into Safe Mode without issues its most likely a driver issue. What was the health on this system before you booted it? Did it run good, infected with viruses ![]() Does it freeze using all the users? Have you tried differnt users? Whats running at startup? Anything out of the norm in the Device Manager?
