I am attempting to install Linksys WMP11 wireless card on a Win98 first edition computer. However, I get a message that Linksys is only compatible with 98se or newer. Is there a way to make the wireless connection work? Radical options are fine as the 'puter is useless otherwise.

You could upgrade to 98SE which is an inexpensive option but is strongly suggested if in the budget.

Thanks for the reply Geekgirl, but I'm not interested in spending any cash on this box. Basically I was wondering if there was a freeware program or something to make windows 98 first ed. work with WMP11 or using a free OS that is WMP11 compatible instead of 98.

If the box is useless without the wireless connectivity, and you don't want to spend money on it, you could try installing something like SuSE Linux which might run the card with its built-in drivers. Not quite the same I know, but I've got a Belkin USB WiFi dongle that just works when configured in SuSE's settings.
