download a bootable floppy from here and boot to it. (you might need to set the boot order in the BIOS to floppy first then CD-ROM and then HD). when you have an A:\ prompt type format c:\ and then reinstall windows.

So, to get things straight, you have a freshly formatted hdd and you cannot install Win98.
I'd suggest you to visit the hdd manufacturer's site and download the zero utility they provide. (You have to know the hdd exact model.) For example, Western Digital calls this utility "Data Lifeguard Tools". Select the utility version (DOS, floppy) that matches your hdd model. After that, follow the hdd oem's instructions to create a floppy. Use it to thoroughly check your disk first, and then to zero it out. (It would also be a good idea at this stage to check your memory as well, with Windows Memory Diagnostic.) After all these steps, try again installing Win98 and post back if it worked OK. |

oh sorry, i thought you had tried to delete folders and not being successful continued to install with folders on C:\
you could use boot n nuke which will wipe the HD clean, but as zazula said using the manufacturers utilities program will check the HD according to it's build. once the HD has been properly wiped you shouldn't have any problems installing windows.
