deleting the registry

does anyone know if i can delete all iexplorer references in the registry and then reinstall ie6 from the desktop. i have ie issues and pcdoc keeps coming back saying that there are many bad registry pathways all relating to ie4 stuff and also every time i run cc cleaner the only issue i get is in the hkcr under header foot header foot. Can i delete that? or take these references and somehow paralyze them so they no longer get adressed by win98se?

Try IEFix

Click the Apply button

You'll be prompted for the Operating System CD or the Service Pack Files location:

If you're using Windows 2000/XP, insert the Operating System CD. For OEM systems, point to the Operating System source path when prompted. If you've applied a Service Pack separately, you need to insert the Slipstreamed Operating System CD (if you have one) or point the installer to the ServicePack source path when prompted (see Fig 2 below). Mention the path as "C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386" or "C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles"

If you don't have the Windows installation CD, and if the installation source files are not present in the hard disk, you may click Cancel. IEFix will continue with DLL registration part.

Restart Windows

Not sure why it would disappear and reappear. Is your system freee of viruses and malware? You may want to look at the First Steps at Removing Malware

clean machine

thank you once again for all your time and effort. it is clean. i am anal about running virus scans adware and spyware scans. once a week i would go to trend micro in addition and do a house call. although i am still having some peripheral issues, your iefix worked like a champ. i was able to go to mcafee and i locked onto it like a pit bull. it updated for about ten minutes. i swear i felt a breeze coming from the processor. i had a microsoft tech write a iefix program run.dat that was on the desk top. it never worked. i am greatfull. hopefully you may be able to help me figure out why my all in one hp printer wont reinstall. every time i attempt a reinstall, when i close something in the program, my screen goes black and i have to hold in the power button to shut it down. i reinstall after running ccleaner, registry mechanic, take everything out of the startup config... same thing....i put my mouse on the install screen and click add more software and the thing goes black. any fixes geek girl?

Whats the model of the all-in-one? Are you removing all instances of it when you removed it...orphaned folders reg keys?
Did it ever work on the system before? Were you getting any errors?
ar you installing from a cd or did you go to their website and get drivers?

hp all in one

thank you for your time and concern. you made a difference. turns out my scanner issues were a result of a kodak program that windows must install and automatically default to. i had no idea there was a kodak imaging program that had been killing my hp scanner.once i got the both of them on the same page, i was in scanner heaven. anyway geek girl, youre the best, and thanks alot for everything. kenzo
