Certain files blocked...

.

Hello to all,

Windows 98SE question:

I am using dial-up at home until ADSL (or something better) comes to my area.
I have the Portable Ffox browser on my flash drive and I Take it back and forth to work with me. I have noticed that I cannot download certain files when I am home... I can't update Java or Macromedia when I go to the sites for them and click download nothing happens and eventually it times out. Any PDF files I try to get come up "This file has been blocked".

I went to my modem company's website to update my drivers and when I CLicked on the final link to download, I got a "This file is blocked" message in the window. Same thing for PDF files for my modem data sheet and user manual.

I can take the same browser to work and get all the stuff that was "blocked" at my home connection.

I ASKed one of the tech guys at work and he thinks there is something set wrong on my home computer in the 98SE settings.

Anybody have any ideas? I have gone to a few internet shops in the area that still use Win98 and have no trouble downloading these same files.

Hope someone can help,

wake

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Hello Gg,

Thanks for the info. I did as you suggested and no files were found bad.

I continue to be able to download mp3 and jpg and others but cannot get flash player or java. I can't get PDF files for Adobe and I have the Adobe Reader installed. The all come up -->

THIS OBJECT HAS BEEN BLOCKED

Anything else I can check?
