iexplorer nightmare

recently i did an over the top reinstall of win98se through dos. i did it because of ie issues and thought it would help. it hasnt. i tried to do a housecall to trend micro and it says you need to download and install jruntime. I have downloaded and uninstalled many times (java and all updates). After i was finally able to start the scan messages kept popping up during the scan saying my internet connection speed was dangerously low. the scan kept getting interupted. when i try to update my mcafee virus and firewall the site says i must enable and set prompts in ie. Done it a million times and i continue to get the message "activex downloads cant continue until you enable .have set cookie issues correctly have allowed pop ups, have uninstalled and reinstalled ie6 many times. I have run virus scans and adware and spyware scans and find nothing. In desperation i just spent thirty bucks on pcdoc and it did nothing. Mozzilla firefox does the same thing when i try to play video.(active x must be enabled. Have uninstalled and reinstalled script writer 5.6. have all windows updates... cant think of anything else. It just seems like my computer wont interface with the downloading of activex components. Before i did the reinstall, i never had active x issues. I have flash player, shockwave player. java enabled, new installs of adobe. can anyone help. If you are willing to help, please be advised i am not that computer literate so break it down for me. I had a couple of dos driver sound card drivers missing after my over the top reinstall and just learned how to download compressed file and unzip and install, so take it easy on me will ya. thanks for any help. kenzo

I would format the thing and start over. The over the top/dirty reinstall
will usually result in exactly what you have kaos.
