enable cdrom in bios
help! i reformatted my hard drive and don't know how to change the setting for the cdrom, in the startup options of the bios, it says third setup device disabled. I click the left arrow button to change it and it won't let me. I can enable or disable the floppy and the hard drive, but not the cd drive. the sytem information says cd-rom drive is installed. so, when i try to reinstall 98 it says invalid system, replace disk and press any key. does anyone know how to enable the cdrom? appreciate the help'

Can you not boot with a Windows 98 "boot floppy" to an A:\> prompt and run the "Setup" file on the CD from there? This can usually be done directly from the A:\> prompt, but you may have to change the prompt to that of the CD drive itself. This will be displaced by one letter from its usual one, i.e. if the CD drive is normally "D" , it will temporarily be "E" drive, due to the creation of the RAM drive.
At the A:\> prompt, type e: and press Enter to get an E:\> prompt At the E:\> prompt type setup and press Enter Last edited by mgmcc; 06-08-2006 at 05:25 AM. |
