WAV file won't play across multiple slides

Hi; I'm new and looking forward to your help! (Hope I'm doing this right!)
I attached a picture of how I have set up a wav file to play across an entire ppt presentation. I'm using version 2003. The sound starts over each time a new slide plays. What am I doing wrong?

Hi. :) You need to right-click it and hit Edit Sound Object. You're in the slide transition, which has nothing to do with the sound object's settings.

I have already tried that too with the same results. The wav file can be made to play across multiple slides using slide transition because that is how I usually do it. But for some reason it is starting the wav file over again each time a new slide plays.

Okay, I see, and I think I found it. Choose the item and go to Slide Show-->Custom animation. Choose the object in the dropdown in the task pane, and choose Effect Options. Tell it to "Stop Playing after ____ Slides". Make sure you put a number in the box that is the same or greater than the number of slides in your presentation.

I've already tried that too with no success. I know that is how it is supposed to work, but there is something weird going on in this particular presentation. The normal way of doing this isn't working. It's not my ppt; I'm working on it for a friend. I'm wondering if she has done something that is making this wav file start over everytime a new slide plays. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it!
