This is a small, but very frustrating problem. How can you delete addresses in auto complete. I have some addresses which were incorrect and autocomplete chooses them first- thus I continue to have bounced back emails. I've checked everywhere for a delete option but can't find one.

Running XP and Outlook 2002.

Hi...

There's a simple way to do this and a hard way.....it's up to you which you wanna do :-)

The simple way is when you start typing the address and the auto complete menu appears, scroll to the one you want to remove and click Delete (it's important you click Delete and not backspace) and that will remove the entry.

Now for the hard way:

Make sure Outlook isn't running, then go to search and look for the following entries:

*.nk2 (cut n paste is need be and you will need to search in hidden files and folders)

You should find an entry under your profile in the Application Data folder. Edit in in notepad and remove the entries you don't want: i.e delete SMTP:user@somewhere.net, repeat this until all required entries have been deleted.

If you find that there is simply too many to go through, you can simply rename the file outlook.bak, restart Outlook and it will create a new cache file from fresh.

Thanks- my problem is tha tI've tried the easy way in the past and it doesn't work. the minute I highlight the address, autocomplete immediately places it in the to: line. So, you can't delete it, ever. Does that mean I have to do the long route. If so, it means everytime there is an address that has been mistyped I have to go through this long process to eliminate it. Is that the case?

Very strange that you can't delete the easy way....what happens when you just type the first letter and use you down arrow to highlight a bad address then click delete?

Also, do you have lots of addresses in the list???? If you don't mind starting from scratch, it might not be a bad idea to make Outlook clear the cache...up to you though :-)

Thanks Nickster- it worked. If i use arrow keys I can do it. But i can't do it if I actually highlight the name by using the mouse. Very odd- but thanks!!
