Error 1324 on Office 2003 Install
The exact text is "Error 1324. The folder path '.' contains an invalid character." This error occurs invariably at the end of the process on the "Publishing product information" step with the progress bar almost completely filled. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the updates and that good stuff. I have no previous versions of office installed. I'm reasonably confident that the source of the install file (my school's website, the freely distributed academic version) of it is a valid file.
I tried reading the Microsoft Knowledge Base to no avail, the only suggestions they have are manually searching the registry (sort of hard to search the registry for a blank field) or to run it on a different profile. I tried both anyways and neither worked. I've tried installing on the XP Administrator account, the Guest account and in safe mode. They all had the same error, besides safe mode which required a service to be on that isnt available in safe mode. I have tried a number of registry scanners that likewise made no dent in this problem. With school starting again, not having MS Office installed isn't a practical option for me. I appreciate any and all help to get this evil little error message to go away. I'm at my wits end with this damn thing, and I feel like this shouldn't be an issue for me since I'm typically a computer-oriented person. Last edited by whoblitzell; 01-17-2006 at 09:50 PM. |

wb,
New here, just signed in. I read your post and I have the same exact problem. I noticed no replies as of yet. Have you by chance checked any other forums? Like you I'm at my wits end with this. Just spent $30.00 on a registry fix as well as numerous "free" ones. All for nothing. Would appreciated a reply. email is fine too. Thanks! |

After much pain installing the legitimate version, I broke down and decided to turn to less legitimate means of installing it and simply using my legitimate CD key on it (which may or may not be legal). All I will recommend is to seek an alternative setup file.
