Did I make a mistake?

I just order a new dell comuter with Windows XP. I didn't order the Microsoft Office Basic software as I was told that since I had it for the computer I'm replacing, I could use that. I need Work, Excel and Outlook Express.

Did I make a mistake by not getting Office with my new purchase?

No, as long as you uninstall Office from the original computer your license is valid on your new pc

Outlook Express is part of Windows XP by default. Works should not be confused with Office. They are two different suites.
Works is a package that includes a word processor, spreadsheet, and a Powerpoint viewer.
Office is a package that includes (in the basic version) Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
