INBOX REPAIR TOOL??? ~ Help for Pay! ASAP
Here's what it reads when I try and open OUTLOOK: ERRORS HAVE BEEN DETECTED IN THE FILE C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMINISTRATOR\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK\outlook.pst. QUIT ALL MAIL-ENABLED APPLICATIONS, AND THEN USE THE INBOX REPAIR TOOL.
I'm an executive and not at all technically inclined. And I don't wish to bring this to my IT people since I feel I made this mistake. I need to fix the mistake. PLEASE HELP. An email arrived yesterday and as soon as it dropped in, everything suddenly became unaccessible!! Everything was gray. I'd click on a folder, and it wouldn't access. I'd try to click on the inbox, outbox -- nothing would show. Must be a corrupt file. When I closed Outlook, it won't reopen! CAN YOU HELP? Here's what I've done so far: 1. Found the Inbox Repair Tool and started to run it, but it didn't finish running. Something wouldn't allow it to finish scanning the 1-8 phases. Does this make sense? 2. Contacted you! Thank you, Brent P. S. I'M WILLING TO PAY TO GET THIS FIXED! P. S.S. I SHOULD'NT HAVE DISABLED MY NORTON INCOMING MAIL SCAN FEATURE, right? Well, I did. Now it's back on. I disabled it because I got tired of pressing 'finished' everytime Norton scanned an email that was corrupt. It just didn't seem to matter to me at the time. |

ONE-ON-0NE HELP. I'm ready to donate!
I don't have time to read a general help post. Although I really appreciate your help! What I need is custom help NOW. Please. I need someone with know-how to guide me through this NOW... step by step.
Is this possible? Who out there knows what I'm talking about and can help me starting with step one? Regards, Brent |

The post refered to in the link giudes you step by step. It is going to take at least a little time to clean up - assuming it is an infection.

Isn't there a way to figure out exactly what's going on instead of assuming? I ask this because I'd rather not go through a step-by-step process that doesn't apply to me. Does this make sense?
Ideally, I'd like find out the problem before taking steps to fix. Is this possible? Thanks, Brent |

3. Bring it to your IT staff.
Really, there seem to be a lot of steps, but each is pretty simple. The only other option is to rename outlook.pst to something else (like outlook-old.pst) and then let Outlook create a new one. You'll lose access to all your old emails, as well as your contacts and tasks (unless they reside on an exchange server). |

Hi
As a general approach I would close down outlook. Click start>search and type SCANPST.EXE This should locate the pst file repair tool. Double click on the file in the search window and select browse, find your outlook.pst file (C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMINISTRATOR\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK\outlook.pst) and select start. this will repair the file if it has any corruptions - the general cause for errors like this are either the PST file is too large (Over 200Mb) or there is corruption on your hard disk. If the file is too large you can create additional PST files from outlook however the procedure varies slightly depending on the Outlook version, let me know the version and I can post instructions. Once the new PST file(s) are created you can drag and drop emails or folders into it. If it is a corruption on the disk I would run chkdsk (open My Computer, right click the C: Drive, select properties, Select Tools and select check now. You will receive a message saying that it cannot check the disk, do you want to check it after a reboot, select yes and (after ensuring all data is saved) restart the PC. If you need direct assistance please feel free to visit our web site from the link on my signature and phone. Regards |
