Words disappearing from text

This is my first posting:

Lately, whole sentences, or strings of a few words, have been dropping out of text a minute or so after I've typed them. Also, when I go back to edit my work, adding a comma or period and other such changes often results in the last letter of the word disappearing. This isn't because I've hit the Insert key. It just happens regardless.

I have MS XP Home. I'm using MS Word 2002 and use Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred v 8 (voice recognition program) some of the time, but this disappearing act happens regardless of whether I'm using that. It also happens when I'm writing e-mail with AOL.

Any suggestions, please?
